Response to Instruction (RtI)

 

 

RtI is the practice of providing high-quality research-based instruction/intervention matched to student needs and using learning rate over time and level of performance to inform educational decisions. RtI should involve all personnel and all students in all schools. When implemented skillfully, RtI can result in tremendously positive outcomes for all students.

 

 

 

Four Core RTI Principles

 

  1. Students receive high-quality, research-based instruction by qualified staff in their general education setting.
  2. The use of a multi-tiered model of service delivery facilitates differentiated instruction and early intervening services for struggling learners.
  3. Movement between tiers is guided by a data-driven decision-making process.
  4. Universal screening and progress monitoring are the basis for instructional decisions.
