Baldwin County’s Teacher of the Year program is a part of the Alabama State Department of Education’s initiative designed to honor outstanding educators. Each of our 44 schools is eligible to select one teacher as Teacher of the Year.

The process begins in the fall of each school year.  A Teacher of the Year selection committee is appointed at each school to solicit nominees and select the school’s Teacher(s) of the Year (elementary and/or secondary). The school-level Teacher of the Year selection committee is composed of the principal, a parent organization representative, a teacher, a student representative, and a counselor or librarian.  The committee, under the guidance of the principal, makes information about the program available to all faculty, parent organizations, and — at the appropriate grade levels —students.

From among those nominees, one Elementary Teacher of the Year and one Secondary Teacher of the Year are named; these two award winners proceed to District 1 level competition.  The other seven districts in the state also choose two winners from among their system nominees.  All district level winners then compete for state honors.

Alabama participates in the National Teacher of the Year program.  To learn more about the state and national programs, please visit:
