Funding Crisis

On March 23, 2010, Baldwin County voters passed a temporary (36 month) one cent sales tax to infuse Baldwin County Public Schools with emergency revenue. The tax passed with 59 percent of voters supporting and 41 percent opposed.

The tax became effective June 1, 2010.

Priorities for the revenue were stated regularly before the referendum. The dollars will be used at local schools to maintain academic, fine arts and athletic programs and will also be used to bring back some vital teaching and support positions related to the safety and health of students and teachers.

Documents related to the funding crisis can be found in the FUNDING CRISIS folder, located at the District Forms and Documents page.

The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ'S) page that appeared online prior to the referendum is still available. The PDF version of the FAQ'S is also still available

The Board of Education will provide a monthly accounting of the revenue from the one cent sales tax. For many years financial statements, board agendas and minutes have been posted at www.bcbe.org.
