    Messages from the School Nurse:

    ·      STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CARRY MEDICATIONS ON THEM DURING THE SCHOOL DAY UNLESS IT IS AN EMERGENCY MEDICATION (EXAMPLE EPIPENS OR INHALERS).  IF YOU NEED TO TAKE MEDICATION DURING THE SCHOOL DAY PLEASE SEE NURSE JOHNSON TO GET THE PROPER PAPERWORK.  ALL MEDICATIONS SHOULD BE BROUGHT IN BY YOUR PARENT WITH A COMPLETED CONSENT FORM.  MEDICATION BOTTLES MUST BE NEW AND UNOPENED.

    ·      TOO SICK FOR SCHOOL:  FEVER OVER 101, VOMITTING MORE THAN ONCE. IF YOU HAVE BEEN PUT ON AN ANTIBIOTIC FOR A CONTAGIOUS CONDITION YOU MUST STAY AT HOME FOR 24 HRS.  ALSO, YOU MUST BE FEVER FREE (WITHOUT FEVER REDUCING MEDS) FOR 24 HRS. PLEASE DO NOT COME TO SCHOOL KNOWING YOU HAVE A FEVER OR HAVE ANOTHER CONTAGIOUS ILLESS.

    ·      HANDWASHING IS THE NUMBER ONE WAY TO PREVENT GETTING SICK.  YOU SHOULD WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE YOU EAT, AFTER YOU USE THE RESTROOM, ETC.  COUGH INTO YOUR ARM NOT YOUR HANDS.  USE HAND SANITIZER IF YOU CAN’T WASH YOUR HANDS.  KEEP YOUR DISTANCE FROM SOMEONE YOU KNOW HAS A FEVER OR CONTAGIOUS CONDITION.

    ·      STAPH INFECTIONS ARE HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS!  IT MAY START OUT LOOKING LIKE A SPIDER BITE. WATCH FOR REDNESS, TENDERNESS, SWELLING AROUND THE “BITE MARK.”  STAPH UNTREATED CAN BE LIFE THREATENING.  MAKE SURE YOU TELL YOUR FAMILY IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE STAPH OR GO SEE NURSE JOHNSON.  STAPH INFECTIONS MUST BE TREATED WITH AN ANTIBIOTIC.  YOU MUST BRING IN A DOCTORS EXCUSE STATING THAT IT IS OK FOR YOU TO RETURN TO SCHOOL.  YOU MUST KEEP THE AREA COVERED UNTIL HEALED.

    ·      ALL KIDS/MEDICAID APPLICATIONS CAN BE DONE ONLINE AT www.adph.org.   IF YOU DO NOT HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE AND WOULD LIKE SOME RESOURCES PLEASE COME BY AND SEE NURSE.
