The Foley High School faculty has selected math teacher, Shastady Bridges, as their 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year. Bridges is a third generation Foley graduate receiving her diploma in 1996. Her father John Lucas and mother, Anessia Christensen, graduated in 1977 and her grandfather Virgil Christensen in 1937.
Upon graduation from Foley High School, Bridges completed her bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics at Spring Hill College and her master’s degree form the University of West Alabama. She began teaching at Robertsdale High School in 2001 but returned to her alma mater in 2005.
Bridges’ husband Chris is also a teacher at Foley High. They have two sons Matthew Lucas and Colton Bridges. Matthew graduated in the spring of 2016 making him the 4th generation graduate of Foley High School. Colton is a Foley Middle School student.
Bridges currently teaches Algebra I and Geometry to prepare her students for Advanced Placement Statistics and Calculus. She is certified to teach Laying the Foundations as well as AP Calculus and is training to be an EMints teacher.
Bridges is currently a Lead Teacher for Mathematics in the county. She also serves as Co-Department Chairman for Mathematics for FHS.
