Mr. Joe Hutchins

Joe Hutchins (Coach Hutch), originally from California came to Alabama in 1984 to play baseball for the Hall of Fame coach Steve Kittrell. After a very success college career, he received his undergraduate as well as master’s degree from The University of South Alabama in 1987 and 1990. He spent his first nine teaching years at Vigor High School in Prichard and LeFlore High School in Mobile. Since 1999, Coach Hutch has been a part of Daphne High School. He has two children that graduated from DHS Dianne Pratti (2001) and Mason Hutchins (2009). From 1999 to 2006 Coach Hutch taught all the honors 9th grade classes at DHS. In 2007 he was asked to pilot the Freshmen Academy and did so with pride.

After building that curriculum, Coach Hutch returned to the English world and continued inspiring students and athletes. He was voted the funniest teacher at DHS for several years in a row and recently the most inspirational teacher. 

Coach Hutch coached cross country and baseball from 1999-2014. He was a part of two state championships in baseball (2001,2002),    several area championships (2000, 2001, 2007, 2008, 2009) nationally ranked teams 2001,2002, 2007, 2008 and has won 354 games as a head coach in the state of Alabama. As a cross country coach, he inspired several student athletes to run in college and every year he had at least one of his teams qualify for state.
