    GULF SHORES HIGH SCHOOL

    NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

     

    NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY GENERAL INFORMATION:

    National Honor Society is an organization with selection for membership based upon the following four criteria: scholarship, leadership, service and character. The Gulf Shores Chapter of National Honor Society is advised by Ms. Michelle McCann and maintains a membership of approximately fifty students. Members of NHS strive to serve the community and school; members also complete a minimum of fifty community service hours per school year. 

    THOSE SEEKING TO JOIN NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY:

    Consideration for membership requires a student be a current 10th, 11th, or 12th grader and currently maintain a minimum GPA. This is the minimum requirement for consideration. For additional information please access the by-laws. If you meet the minimum academic and character criteria for membership, you will be invited to apply to join the Gulf Shores High School chapter. Should you need an additional copy of the membership application/activity form, please visit the school website for the required form. Activity forms are available through Ms. McCann's teacher page. Printed copies can be made available, see Ms. McCann in her classroom. Please follow the instructions on the activity form. Incomplete forms will not be given consideration by the Faculty Council. Additionally, late forms will not be accepted. The deadline for submitting completed activity forms will be announced.

    INFORMATION FOR CURRENT MEMBERS:

    Membership dues are due by October 17, 2018. Dues are $25.00.  T-shirts are included in your dues. T-shirts may not be ordered until dues are collected. See Ms. McCann with cash or check (checks should be made payable to GSHS).

    Remember to keep accurate logs/records of your service hours. At least 25 hours will be due by the end of Semester 1. Forms will be turned in at our December meeting.

    Before submitting your hours for consideration, please consider the following questions:

    • Did this activity benefit more than one or two people?
    • Did it serve the overall community?
    • If you served only one person, was an elderly or disabled adult or child helped for no monetary gain?
    • Was this activity required or expected of you by another organization or class?
    • Was this activity completed outside the normal hours/days of the academic calendar?
