As part of the Baldwin County’s 4- Part Plan, Balanced Literacy, which includes Guided Reading, is one of our school’s academic focuses.  At Daphne East Elementary, twenty-three teachers have completed or in the process of completing a two-year training for Guided Reading. Guided Reading is an instructional approach that involves a teacher working with a small group of students who demonstrate similar reading abilities. Students are assessed and placed in small groups for differentiated instruction based on their needs. The text students read offers challenges and opportunities for problem solving, with the support and guidance of the teacher. The ultimate goal of Guided Reading is for students to read independently a variety of texts with ease and deep understanding.
