Mr. James McGowin's Bio
Hello. My name is James McGowin and I am entering my 19th year with the Baldwin County Board of Education. I am originally from Pensacola, FL where I attended and graduated from J.M. Tate High School. I received a baseball scholarship to play at Alabama Southern Community College in Monroeville, AL during my freshman and sophomore years of college. I was then fortunate enough to continue my education and play baseball at Auburn University at Montgomery in Montgomery, AL where I received my bachelor’s degree in physical education. I then received my master’s degree in education from the University of West Florida and began my journey in Baldwin County, AL. Early in my career I taught at J. Larry Newton in Fairhope, AL for three years then I transferred to Bay Minette Intermediate where I spent the next thirteen years. During this time, I went back to school and obtained my Education Specialist’s degree in administration. I am entering my fourth year at Baldwin County High School serving as an administrator. I have also served at Perdido Baptist Church for the past 16 years as a Sunday school teacher for the middle/high school youth group as well as a deacon for the past four years.
My beautiful wife, Jamie McGowin, is also employed with the Baldwin County Board of Education as a physical education teacher/bus driver at Bay Minette Elementary. We are blessed to have two daughters, Brooke (age 10) and Belle (age 8), who are in fifth and third grade respectively. My hobbies include attending our daughter’s travel softball games and practices, exercising, and pretty much anything outdoors. My life goals are to first and foremost glorify God in everything I do. I also desire to be the best role model/leader for my children and for the youth in our community. We look forward to an exciting and successful 2019-2020 school year! Go Tigers!
