My husband Jaime and I live in Fairhope and have two children. They both attend Fairhope High School. Teal is a senior and Cooper is a freshman. We love spending time outdoors and watching Auburn sports.
I have been in education for 25 years. I received my BS in Early Childhood Education from Auburn University. I taught mainly third grade for 22 years, then earned my Masters in School Counseling from the University of West Alabama. I have enjoyed being in education and getting to know all my students.

They see their own worth and potential while empowering others around them.
Mission Statement
The J. Larry Newton Comprehensive School Counseling Program uses data to prepare all students for academic, social, emotional, and post-secondary opportunities. The school counselors collaborate to serve as leaders and advocates for access, equity, and success for all students. Through collaboration with faculty, staff, families, and the community, this program empowers all students to unleash their greatness within.

Mrs. Loni Burgess
My name is Loni Burgess and I have an undergraduate degree in Public and Community Health Education and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of West Florida. I also have a master’s and specialist degree in School Counseling from the University of West Alabama. I have been in education for 18 years and love seeing students grow academically, socially, and personally. As a school counselor, I have worked with elementary through high school students and previously taught high school special education for twelve years.
My family moved to Alabama in 2019. We are originally from Pensacola, FL. My husband, Joe is a detective with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Department. We have four children; Carson (23), Marissa (18), Serenity (17), and Jamison (10). We love spending time at the beach or in the pool, family game nights, watching documentaries, and spending time in Pensacola with our family and friends.
