Baldwin County Public School’s Prevention Education Programs

Baldwin County Public Schools is committed to providing students with age-appropriate prevention education that supports student safety, responsible decision-making, and overall well-being. Prevention education is provided in accordance with applicable Alabama laws and state requirements and is separate from the Alabama School Counseling Standards and regular school counseling lessons.

Throughout the school year, schools may offer district-approved prevention programs, classroom presentations, and student assemblies addressing topics such as child safety, bullying prevention, suicide prevention and awareness, drug and alcohol prevention, social media and online safety, and other student safety concerns. Parents will have the choice to opt-out of these programs.

Programs and community partners include:

Social Media & Online Safety presentations that address online safety, cyberbullying, inappropriate image sharing, online predators, responsible social media use, and emerging concerns related to artificial intelligence. These presentations support the district’s Erin’s Law prevention education efforts.

Love Like Lexi Project, which uses a message of hope, connection, resilience, problem-solving, and positive choices to complement the district’s Jason Flatt Act suicide prevention and awareness efforts.

NAMI Ending the Silence, which helps students recognize warning signs of mental health concerns, understand when help may be needed, and know how to reach out to a trusted adult or other appropriate support. This program complements the district’s Jason Flatt Act prevention and awareness efforts.

Rachel’s Challenge, which promotes kindness, compassion, positive connections, responsible choices, and help-seeking while supporting district prevention efforts related to bullying, self-harm, suicide, and school safety.

DeBakey Drug Education Program, including its interactive Drug Bus, which provides engaging, age-appropriate education about the risks and consequences of substance use.

Drug Education Council, which may provide short, age-appropriate classroom sessions for middle and high school students addressing current drug and alcohol concerns, prevention, healthy decision-making, and drug-free choices.

Alabama ABC Board Under Age, Under Arrest is a free program for Alabama middle and high schools that educates students about the safety risks, social costs, and legal consequences of underage drinking and substance use. Drug and alcohol prevention programs support the district’s efforts to meet Alabama’s drug education and prevention requirements.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to review the information provided for each program. Before a program is presented at their child’s school, parents and guardians will receive additional information about the program and will have the opportunity to opt their child out of participation if they choose.
