Dr. Blair Heald

After working in childcare and teaching swimming at the Chandler YMCA in Mobile to Club Med in Ixtapa, Mexico, I became a classroom teacher in 1996. I taught first grade for one year then became a teacher for the Project Jubilee program. I love the flexibility of this program. I can teach a unit for one day or weeks at a time depending on the interest of the students. I enjoy researching ideas and information that can be brought back to my students. In addition, I enjoy technology and implementing it in my classroom.

Yes, I love to learn and look forward to it everyday with your children. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and History with a minor in English from the University of South Alabama, a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Spring Hill College, an Educational Specialist degree in Gifted Education from the University of South Alabama, and a PhD in Education with an emphasis in Gifted from Northcentral University. Even with the educational degrees, I firmly believe my classroom is a place to learn for my students, for me, and everyone that walks through our door. I learn so much not just with but from my students.

Personally, I love to travel and have been fortunate over the years to visit Russia, Finland, England, France, El Salvador, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Canada (both the east and the west coasts). I had the privilege of being awarded a Fulbright Memorial Teacher Program Scholarship for three weeks to Japan in October 2002. I returned to Japan in July 2006 with 9 high school aged students and again the summer of 2010 with 11 students. I love to read, work on my computer, garden when there is time, and create Temari or Japanese thread balls. I completed my advanced level two certification in Temari through the Japanese Temari Association and hope to start working on the final two levels soon, ultimately achieving (I hope) master certification. I am the middle of three girls. My younger sister, Robin, lives outside of Dallas with her husband and five children. My older sister, Karen, lives in London with her husband. Karen's son also lives in London and is a graduate of the Cordon Bleu cooking school. My husband, John, is a professional actor.
We have been together since 1978 and married since 1990. We are the proud grandparents of Lila whose mother is John's daughter.
