Mr. Wayne Fillingim
Wayne Fillingim is a 1995 Graduate of Fairhope High School. He earned Bachelor of Music and Master of Music Degrees in Instrumental Music Education at the University of South Alabama in December, 2005 and May, 2015 respectively. His teaching experience began at Palmer Pillans Middle School in Mobile, AL. He began teaching in Baldwin County in the fall of 2006 at J. Larry Newton School where he taught music and band to Kindergarten through 8th grade. When the schools changed to K- 6th grade, Mr. Fillingim became the Sixth Grade Band Director for the Fairhope Feeder Pattern schools. During all of this, he also served as the Director of Music at his church, Kingswood United Methodist Church in Mobile. Additionally, for five seasons, and until his departure from the area, he was the Director of the Pep Bands at University of South Alabama.
In the spring of 2010, Mr. Fillingim had the opportunity to begin graduate studies at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. He moved to Newport News, VA where he was appointed Director of Bands and Music at Mathews High School in Mathews, VA. While at Mathews High School, Mr. Fillingim taught Jazz, Concert, and Marching Bands, Choral studies, Music Theory, Theatre, Guitar, and Strings Classes. He was given the opportunity to return to his home in Daphne, AL and continue studies at University of South Alabama.
For the 2013-2014 school year Mr. Fillingim was in an itinerant position as Director of Bands at Bay Minette Middle School and Associate Director of Bands at Baldwin County High School. It is with great excitement that he returned home and joined the staff of Fairhope High School and Fairhope High School Band. It is at FHS, under the Direction of Mr. Steve Sims & Mr. Steve McKinney, that his passion for Music and desire to become a Band Director was born.
