My goal for your student is to increase their proficiency in art techniques and media. I also want to help your student discover and value their own unique way of seeing their world and communicating it visually! I have been teaching Fine Arts at Foley High School for 10 years. I am always surprised and encouraged to see the level of talent and creativity our students possess! It is very rewarding for me to see those skills and talents grow and develop!
The course work is primarily 'project based' with emphasis on cultural, art historical and personal identity/experiences that influence art making.
I am a working artist and musician besides teaching here at Foley High. Teaching is a second career for me as I was a manager at store and district levels for the JCPenney Co. for 23 years. I truly love this second career even more!
I am originally from St. Louis, Mo., but absolutely love living in Orange Beach on the Gulf coast. I am a former Foley High School 'Teacher of the Year' & Baldwin County 'Teacher of the Year'. I have won several grants including a Ford Foundation Grant & Gilmore Grant @ The Ohio State University as well as the Baldwin EMC 'Starlite' grant.
I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts @ Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and my Master of Fine Arts degree @ The Ohio State University in Columbus Ohio.
