Mr. Jonathan D. Ellis

Welcome to Daphne Elementary School.  We are thankful you have chosen to entrust your child’s most critical developmental years to us.  As a dad and principal, I know there are three questions that are extremely important for my personal children and for my DES children.  Is my child safe?  Is my child happy?  Is my child learning?  At Daphne Elementary School these questions guide us in making decisions every day that impact the lives of children and our supportive community.

Our school is unique because of its nurturing kindergarten-third grade configuration.  Our student population is diverse, which allows children and adults to learn and respect the perspectives of others.  We have developed an excellent, dedicated faculty of professional support staff, teachers and educators.  As a staff we have embraced continuous professional growth.  This is evident in the exciting new teaching strategies we incorporate into daily instructional practice, and the new instructional tools we use to deliver a continuously evolving curriculum.

I graduated from The University of Alabama with a degree in Elementary/Early Childhood Education and attended Samford University to obtain my M.Ed. in Educational Leadership.  I taught grades 1, 3, 4, and 5 in Tuscaloosa, Mobile, and Vestavia Hills, before becoming an Assistant Principal in Hoover.  After moving back home to start a family, I became the Assistant Principal at Elberta Middle School, before beginning the Principalship at Orange Beach Elementary School.  I am now in my fourth year as Principal at Daphne Elementary School.

At Daphne Elementary School our faculty prides itself on service, substance, reputation, and integrity.  I invite you to “build history” with your school family by “liking” our Facebook page at We are proud to share this site with you, and we know it will help you develop a thorough understanding of our wonderful school.  I can be reached directly at or at 251-626-2424.
