Ms. Rebecca De Vaney

My name is Rebecca DeVaney and I love teaching first grade at Rockwell Elementary School.  I grew up in Mobile but have lived in Daphne since 2004 and absolutely love the Eastern Shore.  I graduated from McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in 1996.  While at McGill I was a member of various clubs and played soccer and coached volleyball, soccer, and swim team.  After high school I went to the University of Montevallo where I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education.  During my four years at Montevallo I was very active in my sorority.  As a member of Chi Omega I was the treasurer, pledge trainer assistant, played intramurals, and a member of various committees.  I graduated from Montevallo in May of 2000 and started teaching first grade at Meadow View Elementary in Shelby County.  After two years in Shelby County I decided it was time to move back home to Mobile.  When I moved home I had the opportunity to teach first grade in the same classroom where I sat as a first grade student many years before at Holy Family Catholic School.  After only one year at Holy Family I was fortunate enough to find an open position as a Special Education Paraprofessional at Rockwell.  I also started graduate classes at Spring Hill College. In 2004 I started teaching first grade here at Rockwell.  In May of 2005 I earned my masters in Early Childhood Education from Spring Hill.  During the past years I have realized what is meant by the “Rockwell Family”.  I feel very privileged to be a member of such a caring and wonderful faculty. Besides teaching I enjoy spending time with my mom, three younger brothers, my sister in law and the most awesome nieces in the WORLD!!  I also enjoy Alabama Football, beach trips, exercising, and playing Frisbee with my dog, Grair.
