Mrs. Karen Schotta

Teaching first grade at Foley Elementary School is what I do, and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my job as much as the people I work with!! I hear all the time that teachers do not make much money, but I truly feel rich beyond measure each day that I am blessed to see the smiling faces of my students. They teach me just as much as I teach them. I wouldn't trade it for any amount of money. :) Next to my own children, my students are my world! I honestly need them just as much as they need me. In fact, leaving school for summer break is not a happy time for me...

I have 2 gorgeous sons and a beautiful daughter-in-law. My oldest son has been married for several years. They have no children yet though, so I am not a grandparent. Although, I pray that I will be someday. My youngest son is a senior in college this year and will be applying for medical school soon. It absolutely broke my heart to have both of my children leave home, but I am more proud of them than words can express. They have both turned out to be fine young men able to stand on their own. It is so, so true that they grow up in what seems the blink of an eye.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, music and singing (LOVE country music), reading, cars, sports (especially football), and caring for my plants. I also spend LOTS of my spare time in my classroom. I enjoy it! It's my thing! :)

Experience

Between working as a P.E. Aide, Pre-K Aide, a few interim positions, and my first grade classroom, I have been with Baldwin County Board of Education for the past 11 years. However, I can honestly say that teaching first grade here, at Foley Elementary School, has been the best and most memorable teaching experience for me yet. This school has my heart! FOLEY LIONS ROCK!!!
