Dr. Marsha Coker

A little information about myself: I have eight grandchildren living in Atlanta, GA, Memphis, TN, and Sacramento, CA, with whom I travel every summer. I’ve had the joy of teaching in Alabama public schools for 17 years and online for five years. I look forward to many more years of facilitating student learning. As for my background, I left the glamorous lifestyle of a flight attendant for Pan Am Airways in Miami, Florida to marry a doctor and move to Mobile, Alabama in 1971. After rearing 3 accomplished daughters, I moved to Daphne, Alabama and completed a master’s degree in liberal arts from Spring Hill College. I then earned a doctorate in education from the United States Sports Academy. I wanted a focus on adolescent health and nutrition, which the Academy allowed me in my research. I am very concerned about the obesity epidemic facing our young people. As a public school employee and family and consumer science teacher, I’m able to influence over 300 students a year in making healthy lifestyle choices. I find myself with lots of time to devote to my hobbies which, of course, include education! I also teach for three colleges, online. I look forward to guiding, supporting, and encouraging my students in achieving their middle school education goals, leading to a successful life and career! Please contact me with any concerns you may have. My email contact information is: mcoker@bcbe.org
