Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Rena Fancher
I graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in 1996. I have had an exciting career teaching Special Education in a variety of locations and settings for the past 24 years.
I began my teaching career 24 years ago in a middle school in Sherman, Texas. After getting married, I moved back to Oklahoma where I was a Special Education teacher in both the middle school and high schools. I was the Special Olympics sponsor and spent 5 years attending the the state special olympics competition at Oklahoma State University. Shortly after my first daughter was born, we moved to Wichita Falls, Texas where I taught in the Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities- PPCD. I was blessed to work in the same school with The Regional Day School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Motivated to communicate with the hearing impaired population, I began learning sign language from the incredible instructors at Cunningham Elementary School. I began teaching basic sign language to my early intervention students and enjoyed observing the communication between the hearing as well as hearing impaired students. Shortly after my second daughter was born we left Texas and moved to Mississippi where I became and Intervention Specialist at a 5th and 6th grade school. After a couple of years in Clinton, Mississippi, we then transitioned to Birmingham, Alabama where my 3rd child was born. I had the privilege of teaching in an elementary school as a Special Education inclusion and resource teacher for several years.
Currently, I have been teaching Special Education at Spanish Fort Middle School for the past 7 years and have been the Special Education Department Chair for 6 years I am excited to be working primarly in 7th grade this year and look forward to helping my students succeed at the secondary level.
