Hello! I am so excited to teach choir at SFMS! What a wonderful way to spend a day….singing! I have been teaching choir since 1984 and have been at SFMS since it opened in 2008. Prior to SFMS, I taught at Daphne High School for 14 years. I have also taught in Florenc, Alabama (St. Joseph Catholic School and Northwest Shoals Community College) and Tennessee (Cascade School in Bell Buckle). I am also currently teaching night coursed at Coastal Alabama Community College in Bay Minette, and I am the Music Director at Stockton First Baptist Church.
Choirs under my direction have consistantly received Superior and Excellent ratings at State and District Levels. In addition, choirs have performed in the Disney Candlelight Christmas Porcessional, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Nashville, and in New York at the famous Carnegie Hall. One of the highlights of my career at Daphne High School was the Annual Madrigal Dinner Theater at Christmas which the community looked forward to every year. Also, I served as musical director for several productions including The Music Man, Camelot, Bye Bye Birdie, West Side Story, Grease and Oklahoma. The most touching moments in my career was the performance of the Daphne High School Jubilee Sounds at our State Music Educator's Conference in 2001. I also was the recipient of the Daphne High School Teacher of the Year Award the same year.
I grew up in Eva, Alabama in Morgan County and graduated from Brewer High School in Sommerville. I have been married to a terrific man, Kent, since June of 1984. We have two beautiful, grown-up children, Jessica Russell and Trey, and one grandson, Graham. I also have a cat, Misty and a dog, Oscar.
I enjoy spending time with my family, walking, cross-stitching, watching movies and College Football!! Unfortunately, I live in a house divided. War Eagle anyway!! (my children tell me I'm confused).
