    All GSMS students are required to complete Summer Reading prior to the first day of school. See books, instructions and guidelines below for your assignment.

     

    REGULAR ENGLISH

    7TH GRADE

    • Read one of the books listed below.
    • Choose ONE of the prompts below and respond in 50-100 words:
      • Describe yourself as a writer. You might discuss what you like/dislike about writing, what kind of writing you prefer, or even how you approach writing tasks.
      • Describe yourself as a reader. You might discuss what you like/dislike about reading, what kind of texts you prefer, or even how you approach reading tasks.
        • Also consider responding to the question in the genre, or style of writing, that best expresses your ideas. You may choose an essay, poem, song, letter, short story, ETC. You might even take a multi-genre approach.
    • Bring assignment ready to turn in on the first day of school.

    8TH GRADE

    • Read one of the books listed below.
      • Night (PDF on Library page)
      • The Pearl
      • The Diary of Anne Frank
      • The Good Earth
    • Complete ONE of the project options.
      • Instructions can be downloaded to the right of this page.
      • Epilogue, Newsletter, TV/Radio Report, Character Journal
    • Make sure you also read the grading rubric.
    • Bring your assignment ready to turn in on the first day of school.
