    SOCIAL MEDIA REQUEST

Parents: Please review your familiy Internet Safety Plan with your student with special attention to family expectations regarding the use of Social Media. It is a good idea to go through your student's Social Media accounts with them, particularly Snap Chat and Snap Chat For My Eyes Only as well as any hidden picture vaults that may exist. Where Social Media has some merits, it has many pitfalls for young people, and it can create problems at the school.

In grades 9-12, a student may not exceed nine (9) unexcused absences per class per academic year.  If a student misses more than half of a class period, a full absence will be accumulated.  The student will lose credit for any class in which the unexcused absences exceed nine (9) per class.  The student can make-up up to four (4) unexcused absences (two per semester) by attending Academic Saturday School before the end of academic year.

A student and a student’s parent or guardian will receive written notice when a student’s unexcused absences exceeds two (2) days in any class.  When the student exceeds five (5) unexcused absences per class, the student and parent/guardian can petition the Attendance Committee at the school for review of the reasons for absences.  Petition for review by the Attendance Committee can be filled out at any time after notification, but in any event, no later than 20 calendar days before the final day of the academic year.  The Attendance Committee shall review the student’s entire attendance record and documented excuses to determine whether to award credit.
