Mrs. Leigh Barr

I am a home-grown southern lady who loves children and making a positive difference in their lives! I am originally from the small town of Luverne, Alabama also known as "The Friendliest City in the South."

I was afforded many opportunities to be involved with school and civic activities in the community as a teenager. I learned early on in my life that I wanted a career where I could leave a lasting impression of my faith and love for making each day count. Teaching was the perfect fit for me. I attended college at Troy University where I earned a bachelor's degree in Collaborative Elementary Education. After graduating, I taught school in Shelby County for 4 years. I moved closer to home in May of 2005 and began working in Coffee County. While there I taught 4th and 5th grades, served as a resource teacher, and led our staff as a reading coach as well. I served Coffee County for 9 years and was blessed to call it home for so long. Being a part of the school system there instilled values in me personally and professionally. As teachers, we all learn so much in those first few years in the classroom. I learned core values of work ethic, perseverance, character, and most of all participated in endless professional development that molded me into who I am as a professional today. I will forever be indebted to the countless hours and attention other leaders gave to me during that wonderful phase of my career.

I married my real-life ARMY hero in November of 2007; his name is Adam Barr. He has proudly served our country in Afghanistan and other parts of the US as well. We have 3 beautiful children: Zachary, Anna Cate, and Isabelle. Each of them perfectly complete our family. Anna Cate is our creative genius who in gifted in culinary skills at the young age of 9! :-) Zachary plays baseball and loves to sing. Isabelle is our tiny dancer, and she loves to sing as well. Our dedication to serve as a military family brought us to Baldwin County in August of 2013. We attend First Baptist Church in Loxley. I was blessed to become a part of the staff here at Daphne Elementary where I have served as a resource teacher for kindergarten and first grades for the last 5 years.  I am excitedly stepping in to support our teachers and students this school year as the instructional coach.

I am looking forward to serving our school and your children this school year!
