My name is Ashley Semmes and I teach 4th grade here at Fairhope Intermediate.  This will be my fourth year at FIS and I am proud to call myself a Fairhope Pirate.  I grew up in North Alabama and received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree at Jacksonville State University.  We moved to Baldwin County several years ago and truly love being here.  I taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 3rd grade at Magnolia School in Magnolia Springs before transferring to Fairhope Intermediate.  I truly love teaching my Smarties!  

I am currently working towards my Master's degree in Gifted Education with Troy University (Jacksonville State's biggest rival, so shhhh - don't tell them).  

I believe ALL students can learn.  I believe in using a variety of methods to allow students to be successful and know that hands-on activities and real-world problems teach more than worksheets ever could.  I believe encouragement is a superpower and that having a positive classroom creates positive learners!  

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Marc Semmes, for almost 22 years, who is an attorney here in Fairhope.  We have 3 amazing children and are always busy with band, swim, soccer, sailing, drama, and dance.  We are active in the community and love staying busy.  We have two cats named Lucy and Nervous Nellie, who both love to be the center of attention, one hamster named Pierce, and 2 class pet guinea pigs, named Peanut and Muffin.  One day, we hope to add a dog into this crazy mix.  :)  In my spare time (HAHAHA!) I love to sing, read, watch football (WAR EAGLE and GO PIRATES!), and do a little autocross racing.
