Trey Whitman, Director Spanish Fort High School

 

                Trey Whitman grew up in Wetumpka, AL and moved to Mobile, AL in 1999 where he attended college at the University of Mobile.  During his tenure at the University of Mobile he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Music Education.  His role in the University of Mobile music department was vital.  He served as Tuba section leader for the 4 years he attended as well as participated in several vocal ensembles.  In 2014 Mr. Whitman earned his Master’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Mr. Whitman in the Mobile Symphonic Pops Band for twelve years as well as served as guest conductor for the band.  Bands under Mr. Whitman’s direction have participated in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Chicago, several parades in Walt Disney World, and the International Concert Band Festival a at Loyola University. Prior to his appointment at Spanish Fort High School, Mr. Whitman was serving in his 8th year at Mary G. Montgomery High School as the band director.  Since arriving at MGM, the band program has grown and has continued the tradition of excellence set forth many years ago.  Under his direction, the MGM Band has consistently received Superior ratings at Marching, Concert and Jazz Competitions.  

                Mr. Whitman is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the American School Band Director’s Association,  and the Alabama Bandmaster’s Association.  In addition, he served as the Chairman for District VII of the Alabama Bandmaster’s Association from 2009-2011 and served on the ABA State Executive Board.  Mr. Whitman enjoys the day to day rigor of teaching and running a successful band program, but in addition enjoys serving as guest conductor and clinician.  He has served as clinician for the Mobile County, Baldwin County, and Jacksonville State University Honor Bands to name few.  

                In his spare time, Mr. Whitman enjoys spending time with his 11 year old daughter, Elizabeth Whitman and four year old twins Catherine and Curtis Whitman.
