Mr. Tim Smith

Tim Smith comes to Foley High School from McMinn County High School in Athens, Tennessee where he taught English for 18 years. He also worked the last four years as an Adjunct Professor of English at Cleveland State Community College and taught Dual Enrollment Comp 1 and Comp 2. 

He has his B.S. in English (2000) and B.A in Communications (1989) from Tennessee Wesleyan College. He also has an MA in Creative Writing from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

Smith coached cross country and track for many years at McMinn, and he will coach boys’ cross country and distance for the track team at Foley High School. At McMinn Smith’s team won the 2002 Boys AAA (big school) Cross Country State Championship, and he coached two individual state champions in cross country as well. Along with numerous All-State performances in track, Smith coached the 2003 4x800 State Champion team and Haley Ward who won state in the 3200 before matriculating at Ole Miss. During his tenure McMinn athletes were awarded dozens of scholarships in track and cross country.

Smith is married to Jamie who teaches third grade at Gulf Shores Elementary, where his son Miles is in kindergarten. His daughter Hannah attends Cleveland State Community College.
