Mrs. Heather Bender

My name is Heather Bender and I am proud to call Gulf Shores Elementary School my new home. I teach 5th grade math and Leader in Me, a method that empowers students with leadership and life-skills. I co-teach with Mrs. Kelly Nelson (Reading and Social Studies) and Mrs. Jody Robinson (Science and Language Arts). This year marks my seventh year in the classroom. I have always enjoyed helping others learn and grow. I attended Judson College and Concordia College to earn my bachelor's degree in elementary education, and I am currently enrolled in a master's program. I have taught in both the public and private school setting in Selma and Gulf Shores, Alabama.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Lee, and my son, Copeland. Copeland is a fourth grader at Gulf Shores Elementary this year. You can usually find us on the soccer or baseball field cheering him on. My favorite pastimes are rooting for the Crimson Tide, movies, black and white photography, art, basking in the beauty that we call the "Gulf Coast", wedding planning, and relaxing at home with friends, family, and a few spoiled rescue pups!
