    • Science & Children, March 2017 publication - Down by the Bay. The article co-authored by the Pelican's Nest Science Lab Director, Kacie Hardman, documents the valuable learning occurring at the experiential nature center.
    • Charlene Lee, Director of The Walking School Bus, The Giraffe Award - #StickYourNeckOut for the Common Good - The Walking School Bus is the first of its kind in Alabama. Students meet each day, rain or shine, and walk to school from the city library.
    • Jump Rope for Heart Top Fundraiser – Alabama 2016-2017
    • The brown shrimp was named the official state crustacean of Alabama in 2015. This is the third bill that the teachers and students have co-authored. In 2000, the students wrote a bill for the official state amphibian, the red hills salamander. In 2004, the students wrote the bill to have the blackberry adopted as the official state fruit.
