My name is Lynn Smith and I am blessed to be the assistant principal here at J. Larry Newton School. I am originally from Satsuma, AL.  I received my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Alabama. My Master’s Degree was awarded from the University of West Alabama.  I have previously taught in Mobile county for 9 years.  I was a teacher and Instructional Coach here at JLN before serving as the assistant principal.  My husband and I have two wonderful children. We enjoy the outdoors, watching football, and being together. War Eagle!

My teaching experience has taught me how forming relationships is vital to the success of each student.  Students arrive at school with an invisible backpack of emotions.  Discovering how each child learns and meeting their emotional needs is so very important. It is a part of our job to look beyond just the academics and strive to help each child develop as a whole person. By being a Leader in Me school, J. Larry Newton’s teachers and staff do this on a daily basis.  We help students develop as a whole person by teaching them how to be good people through the use of the 7 habits.
