- Magnolia School
Important Parent Information!!
Welcome to Magnolia School! As Mr. Tyler announced earlier this month, school will begin on August 12, 2020 and you do have the option of face to face or virtual. Please visit www.bcbe.org for full details.
We realize you all are having to make some difficult decisions regarding the upcoming school year. Please know that we are here for you and we understand completely and support you no matter what you decide regarding your child’s educational setting. In the meantime, you have been patiently waiting for answers to a myriad of questions. Hopefully the information below will answer some of the most frequently asked questions as I would like to share some of the things we will be doing specifically at Magnolia School to face the challenge of COVID-19.
Sanitizing/Cleaning: Our top priority is keeping our campus as sanitized and clean as possible for the safety of your children and our faculty. We have heightened our attention to specific sanitation guidelines related to COVID-19 and our facilities will be cleaned multiple times a day. We have special equipment being provided by the county to sanitize classrooms and other high traffic areas as quickly and frequently as possible.
Masks: We are following Governor Ivey’s orders regarding masks. Students below second grade will not be required to wear masks and students who have a 504 plan and/or Healthcare Plan or an IEP will be addressed on an individual basis. We will certainly work with our parents and students to meet specific needs.
Visitors: Visitors will be allowed on campus by appointment only. We ask that you call our front office at 965.6200 to make an appointment. Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to allow visitors for lunch or walking children to classrooms. Until further notice, all visitors are required to wear a mask or other facial covering for the duration of their visit. More information will be forthcoming regarding check out/in and dropping off forgotten items.
Registration/Withdrawal/Paperwork – by appointment only. If you need to schedule a time to come by please call Ms. Judy, our registrar, at 965.6200 or email her at email@example.com.
Delivery of student medications –by appointment only with school nurse.
Thermal Cameras: We have three thermal cameras installed to take the temperatures of students as they arrive to school. We will have these placed at our arrival entrance and the front entrance to monitor the temperature of our students.
Water Fountains: We are currently working on getting water filling stations rather than students using the water fountains. In the meantime, we are allowing students to bring bottled water and/or water bottles. We currently have one water filling station in the cafeteria and one in our new wing for upper grade levels.
Seating in Cafeteria: We are alternating our cafeteria schedule to reduce the number of students in the cafeteria at one time. Students will rotate café eating with eating either in the classroom or outside (pending weather). We will practice social distancing at all times in the café with seating.
School Supplies: We have supplies covered. If you would like to donate please check with your child’s teacher
Meet the Teacher Grades 1 - 6: Grades 1-6 Meet the Teacher will be virtual this year. You will be receiving correspondence from your child’s teacher with more information about how to access the virtual introduction and to learn more about your child’s classroom.
Kindergarten Meet the Teacher: Kindergarten Meet the Teacher will be in the classroom face to face on Monday, August 10. Your child’s teacher will contact you directly with specific times. Due to Covid-19, we are limiting each family to 1 adult and 1 kindergarten student. Adults will be required to wear a mask and have their temperature taken upon entering the school along with answering a few health related questions.
Pre K Meet the Teacher: Your child’s teachers will reach out to you directly regarding Meet the Teacher
Canteen/Snack/Lunch Payments: We will not have a canteen this year so please be sure and send a snack if your child wants one. If you need assistance, please reach out to Ms. Wiggins (PreK-3rd) or Ms. Sears-Lee (4th-6th). When possible, please utilize https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ver2/getmain?requestAction=home to pay on your child's lunch account. This provides a mechanism for a “touchless payment option” as recommended by the Center for Disease Control. We strongly encourage parents to use online payments lunch accounts with no convenience fees.
T-shirts for Sale and Online Payment Option: School t-shirts are for sale! This year, we are using an online system for both ordering and payment. We are excited about this easy way to order the t-shirts of your choice. We are offering 5 colors for each day of the week! The shirts are for sale in the eSchool payment portal, which provides a mechanism for a “touchless payment option” as recommended by the Center for Disease Control. We strongly encourage parents to use online payments for shirt orders with no convenience fees. https://baldwincoal.csiepay.com/
Afternoon Transportation: You will soon receive information about downloading our new carline app! We are super excited as this will provide us with a more safe and secure dismissal system and we appreciate your patience as we navigate through this transition.
Free/Reduced Lunch Applications: The 2020-2021 Free and Reduced Meal Application is available online. Parents will need to complete a new 2020-2021 meal application for the upcoming school year even if they have recently done a 2019-2020 application. The link for the application is www.bcbe.org/applyforlunch.
Thank you for all of your kind words and support during this difficult time. We are here for you and promise to do all we can to ensure your child’s safety and well-being while on our campus.
