What does the school day look like?
- Students may enter the building on the gym side starting at 7:20 and are considered tardy after 7:50
- Students have a 7 period day with a mid-day lunch
- Students dismiss starting at 3 PM and the school office closes promptly at 4PM

Students must have a passing average in all 4 core classes (English, Math, Science, and History) for promotion to the next grade level.
- Grade recovery is offered in the spring for students failing a core class for semester 1. One semester may be made up in grade recovery. There is a fee for grade recovery and no transportation available.
- Summer school is offered in the summer for students that fail a core class for the year. Only two semesters may be made up in summer school. There is a fee for summer school and no transportation available.
How are students selected for advanced classes?
- Semester 1 grades and Quarter 3 grades
- Fall and Winter Scantron Performance Series scores
What is the difference between Advanced and Regular classes?
- The courses are taught at an accelerated pace and the workload is challenging
- Students need time management and study skills
- Schedule changes from the advanced class should not be expected
- Algebra I combines objectives from 8th grade Pre-Algebra and 9th grade Algebra I
How are gifted services offered?
- Gifted services are offered through an elective course, Gifted Exploration.
How are Intervention classes offered?
- All intervention classes are taught as enrichment courses for students that qualify
- Regular education students are placed in intervention due to grades, Scantron scores, and state test scores and are recommended to those classes by the Problem Solving Team (PST) through the Response to Instruction (RtI) process.
- Special education students are placed based on their IEP needs.
- Guided Reading curriculum is used for reading intervention.
- Trans Math curriculum is used for math intervention.
- Special Education intervention is offered through enrichment classes with student case managers.

What is the digital device policy?
The use of personal, wireless communication devices by students is prohibited on school grounds or while students are being transported on a school bus, except as provided for herein. Personal, wireless communication devices include, but are not limited to, cellular telephones, pocket pagers, email devices, “walkie talkies,” or any other electronic communication device. Students are permitted to keep personal wireless devices only in lockers, the school office, or other locations approved by the principal or his designee. The Board assumes no responsibility for theft, loss, or damage to any personal/wireless communication device. The principal or his designee may approve the use of such devices during medical emergencies, natural disasters, after regular school hours, at events or under circumstances in which the use of the devices serves safety and convenience without disrupting academic or school operations.
Principals or their designees will also have the authority to further restrict or deny the use of personal/wireless communication devices by any student to prevent the misuse, abuse, or violation of school rules regarding the use of such devices. School officials may read, examine, or inspect the contents of any such device upon reasonable suspicion that the device contains evidence of an actual violation of the law, of Board policy, the Student Code of Conduct, or other school rules, provided that the nature and extent of such examination shall be reasonably related and limited to the suspected violation.
What is the uniform policy?
- No pictures, emblems, or writings on clothing that:
- Are lewd, offensive, vulgar or obscene,
- Advertises or depicts tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs or any other illegal substance, or
- Contains fighting words or incites criminal activity.
- No cut off tops. (No midriff can be showing)
- No sleeveless garments.
- No see-through garments.
- Designed so that the neckline does not reveal cleavage.
- Designed to cover all undergarments.
- Fit properly- no oversized or overly tight tops.
- No tank top/undershirt can be worn as a shirt. Shorts:
- Length should be at fingertip/hand or mid-thigh, whichever is longer.
- Fit properly- no oversized or tight shorts.
- No spandex, biker, or see-through shorts.
- Must be hemmed and not rolled up
- Length should be at fingertip or mid-thigh, whichever is longer.
- Splits may not exceed (3) inches above the top of the knee.
- Proper fit- no sagging or baggy fit: worn at the waist.
- No see through or spandex legging pants.
- Leggings/tights may be worn only under shirts and dresses of appropriate length.
- No oversized or tight pants.
- No holes in jeans in inappropriate areas (length rule).
- Sweat pants and warm-up suits will be allowed.
- Must be worn at all times, fastened properly.
- *Classes may require certain shoes. Ex. P.E., Chemistry.
- No bedroom slippers.
- Hats, caps, sweatbands, or other head covering will not be worn in building.
- No gang related clothing/items will be allowed
What is the attendance policy?
Early Warning Truancy Notice and Parental Notification of Early Warning Truancy Prevention Program.
Excused absences will be permitted for the following reasons:
- Personal illness
- Death in the family
- Court subpoena
- Religious holidays
- Emergencies conditions approved by the principal
- Prior permission of the principal upon request of the parent or legal guardian
Documentation supporting an excused absence must be submitted no later than three school days following the child’s return to school or the absence will be deemed to be unexcused. Excessive unexcused absences may result in a loss of academic credit at the high school level and the possibility of retention in grades K-8. At all grade levels, unexcused absences will result in no opportunity to make-up missed work. Excessive unexcused absences will also result in a referral to the Early Warning Truancy Program.
Elementary and Middle School Students
- A student may not exceed nine (9) unexcused absences per class per academic year.
- If a student misses more than half of a school day, a full absence will be accumulated (11:30).
- A student and a student’s parent or guardian shall be given written notice when a student acquires two (2) unexcused absences. A student who does not provide a valid excuse for days absent will be prohibited from making-up work missed due to the absence.
- The student can be retained if unexcused absences exceed nine (9) unexcused absences per year.
- If the maximum number of unexcused absences is exceeded, the student and parent/guardian may petition the Attendance Committee for review of the reasons for the absences.
- Petition for review by the Attendance Committee at the school can be filled out at any time after notification, but in any event, no later than 10 school days before the final day of the school year.
- The Attendance Committee shall review the student’s entire attendance record and documented excuses to determine whether to allow the student to pass.
