GET INVOLVED AT FMS

 

The Art Pride (Art Club)

  • Meets one day a week after school in Ms. Smyly’s room
  • Parent letters will be made available.Members will be chosen on a first come first serve basis when the letters are returned signed so listen for an announcement.  This is a semester-long club, so if you miss out first semester there will be a chance to join second semester.
  • Participates in school beautification projects, community events, and hosts the Fall and Spring semester art shows.
  • Responsible for hosting the online art magazine, The Pride Pages
  • Sponsor-Mrs. Smyly

 

The Pride Pages

  • Foley Middle School’s online art magazine
  • Any student may submit artwork
  • Sponsor-Ms. Smyly and The Art Pride

 

Scholar’s Bowl

  • Sign-ups will be in September.Tryouts will be conditional on the number of students who sign-up.
  • Will meet once a week after school (usually Tuesdays) from 3:05-4:00 or 4:30
  • Will host competitions at FMS as well as travel to other schools to compete
  • This is a Jeopardy style competition where students compete as a team to answer trivia questions to earn points
  • Sponsor-Ms. Whiddon

 

Pride Leaders

  • Help new 7thgraders become adjusted to Foley Middle School
  • For 7thgraders only
  • Will be selected in January based on teacher recommendations and counselor interviews
  • Must be a responsible student who can be pulled out of class occasionally to give student tours
  • Sponsor-Mrs. Kukes and Mrs. Morris

 

SGA (Student Government Association)

  • Focuses on leadership and service
  • Elections will be held early in the school year

 

Library Assistants

  • Assists the librarian in tasks such as shelving books and delivering materials to classrooms
  • This will be your Enrichment period so this is not available to band or choir students
  • Sponsor-Mrs. Norman

 

Archery Club

  • This is a competition Archery Club
  • There will be a mandatory parent meeting early in the year
  • Practices will be after school and some competitions held on Saturdays
  • In the past, this club has competed at the state, national, and world level
  • Participants must maintain good grades and have good behavior at school and at practice
  • Fees-a team shirt must be purchased and there will be costs involved for each tournament
  • Sponsor-Mrs. Hinson

 

 

TSA (Technology Student Association)

  • Fosters personal growth, leadership, and opportunities in technology, innovation, design, and engineering through activities such as building airplanes and program software
  • Will meet once a week after school and will attend competitions
  • Look for posters around school advertising the recruitment meeting
  • A fee will be required
  • Sponsor-Ms. Johnston

 

STEM Club

  • Explores many science concepts in a fun, activity-based format

Will meet once day per month after school

  • Fee-$20 covers the cost of a drink and snack and is used to purchase supplies for the hands-on science labs
  • Sponsors-Mrs. Hamric, Mrs. Hinson

 

FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America)

  • Professional student organization that provides personal growth, leadership development, and career preparation for students in Family and Consumer Science (FACS) education
  • Open to any 8thgrade FACS student
  • Sponsor-Mrs. Beshears

 

FEC (Friends of Exceptional Children)

  • Provides friendships while developing compassion and raising support and awareness for people with physical and intellectual disabilities
  • Participates in various activities and projects throughout the school year as well as assists at Special Olympics
  • Sponsors-Mrs. Hadley

 

Jr. National Honors Society

  • International organization that serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, character, citizenship, and service
  • Membership is by invitation only
  • Requires some sort of school service to the community, school, or other organization
  • Sponsor-Mrs. Owen

 

Peer Helpers

  • Provides mentoring, mediation, tutoring, and friendship to students
  • This is for 8thgraders only
  • Students will apply at the end of their 7thgrade year; must have nothing less than a C average, have good attendance, and no major discipline referrals
  • Teacher recommendations and application required
  • Sponsors- Ms. Ward, Ms. Bergenty

 

Athletics

  • FMS offers numerous athletic programs.Listen to the morning announcements or talk to one of the PE coaches regarding tryout dates and requirements
