I am Tonya Harrelson, principal of JL Newton Elementary and I enthusiastically extend a warm welcome to each of you as we begin an exciting academic year. I am honored to serve at a school with a commitment to academic excellence. I previously served as assistant principal at Fairhope Middle School for 5 years. Prior to that, I taught 8^th grade Algebra I at Fairhope Middle. I have also taught 1^st, 4^th, 5^th, and 6^th grades. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and my Master’s in Elementary Education from Auburn University. I also earned my Educational Leadership degree from the University of West Alabama.

With 33 years of experience in education, I have a deep passion for instilling a love of learning in our students. My priority is to ensure that every student at J. Larry Newton Elementary receives a top-notch education in a safe learning environment while experiencing the warmth of a close-knit family atmosphere. I believe that a positive partnership between home and school is crucial for the development of our students. I encourage you to actively engage with us and support us throughout your child's journey.
