J. Larry Newton Elementary School is located along the eastern shore of Mobile Bay in beautiful Baldwin County just a few miles south of Fairhope, Alabama. The rural community is a tight-knit, family-oriented environment which has high standards for academic excellence.
J. Larry Newton Elementary School serves approximately 850 students and is economically and demographically diverse. In 2013, our school met requirements to receive Title I funding and currently approximately 55% of our population are eligible for free/reduced lunch.
Our demographics include:
84% Caucasian
14% Hispanic population
10% Multi-Race
4% African American
Less than 2% -American Indian/Alaskan Native/Asian/Pacific Islander
Newton Faculty and Staff consists of one-hundred and thirteen employees. The faculty also consists of one principal and two assistant principals. We employ two counselors, one social worker, a speech pathologist, and five special education teachers that use the inclusion model.
Our Mission
The mission of J. Larry Newton School is to educate and motivate students to become life-long learners and productive citizens.
At J. Larry Newton, we believe everyone can learn and all learners are unique and have value. We believe that learning is a life-long process. We also believe that expectations affect outcomes and that problem solving is essential for improvement. We believe that education is a shared responsibility between families, students, and the school faculty. We also believe that responsibilities accompany rights. Lastly, everyone needs a positive role model and needs to feel safe and secure.
