Peer Helpers assist classmates by showing empathy and listening, providing options for making healthy choices, becoming advocates, and helping them get involved in campus life. We are sponsored by the Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation. For more information on this foundation go to jennifermoorefoundation.com
Peer Helpers September Projects:
Suicide Prevention Awareness Week – daily announcements with warning signs and prevention strategies; posters and billboards in the hall; pledge cards; students wore purple and turquoise; raised $150 to donate to AFSP at the Out of the Darkness walk.
Attendance Speeches – for Attendance Awareness Month, we talked to all the kids at Magnolia Elementary school about the importance of being at school every day
New Student Social – we have over 130 new students! We invited them to our Simply Sweet VIP Social for free desserts. They also received a ticket for free Kona Ice on Sept 23. We have personally toured each person who enrolled after the first day of school. Those tours have occurred jet about daily!
Peer Helper Trainings – we have helped with training younger peer helpers at 5 Rivers (elementary), Camp Beckwith (middle), Elberta/Summerdale (elementary). We organized icebreakers and team building activities for some and taught lessons about skills at others.
PTO Open House – assisted with Open House
Foley Elementary Mentoring – we begin our weekly mentoring at Foley Elementary at the end of the month. We go twice per week and have a younger student who will be mentored all year.
