Fine Arts Department: Overview

  • The Baldwin County Public Schools believe that a fine arts education is essential for the development of the whole child. The importance of the arts is clear: while stimulating imagination and self-expression, the arts hold a significant role in the development of critical thinking, responsible decision-making, and cultural awareness. We strive to encourage the leader and artist in every child to help them grasp, comprehend and appreciate the importance of creativity in a diverse global society. The arts provide students with unique experiences that allow them to explore their passions, maximize their creativity and critical thinking skills, and learn valuable lessons about self-motivation, dedication, teamwork, and communication.

The Baldwin County Public Schools Fine Arts Department has a team of 100 talented and highly effective fine arts educators dedicated to inspiring our students to be lifelong learners while developing abilities and habits that empower their learning across the curriculum. The Fine Arts Curriculum is designed to provide teachers with the freedom to deliver arts programming in a personalized manner while ensuring all students throughout the district learn arts literacy with similar information. Our educators use the Alabama Course of Study: Arts Education as the conceptual framework of a quality, rigorous, and innovative Fine Arts curriculum.

Every elementary student in the district receives high-quality visual arts and music classes. In grade six, students have the opportunity to participate in instrumental music and band classes.

Secondary schools offer many different fine arts strands for students to pursue:
