Welcome to the Daphne High School
Big Brothers Big Sisters page!
Our mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. We enlist volunteers, we fondly refer to as Bigs, to help children, our Littles, realize their potential and build their futures. We nurture children and strengthen communities through two programs, Community and School-based. We are excited to offer the School-based Mentoring Program for volunteer High School Bigs to be able to mentor children at Belforest Elementary School.• In the High School Bigs program, the Big (mentor) and Little (mentee) will see each other once a week on a weekly basis after school at the after-school program at Belforest Elementary. There is no cost for this mentoring program. This will allow the Big and Little to build and share a friendship within a structured setting. Bigs must also complete monthly match support with BBBS Staff to ensure that the match is appropriate, and the pair is working towards goals that are beneficial to the child.• Each “match” will focus on doing fun activities with their Littles, developing a friendship, and academic success. The match will also work on building positive communication and social skills during their time together.• Every volunteer “Big”, is interviewed, screened, and assessed for the Big Brothers Big Sisters program prior to being approved to be a mentor. For this program, we will be working primarily with High School students at Daphne High School.• We are asking for a commitment from each volunteer and to be accountable for meeting with their Little on a weekly basis for approximately 1 hour at the afterschool program. If an absence is necessary, it is important for the BBBS Staff to be notified. For further information contact Gale Croft at gale@centralgulfbbbs.org or 251.294.6139
